Development and strengthening of the chemical cluster
for the support of innovation and internationalisation of
Small and Medium- sized Enterprises

The project ChemSME is the cooperation between the regions Saxony-Anhalt, Limburg and North East of England in the framework of the regional cooperation project “TouriSME” of the Interreg IIIC Initiative.

With regard to the particular importance of the chemical industry in the cooperating regions the project ChemSME aims at a systematic exchange of experience about successful policies for the development and the strengthening of chemical clusters.

The project addresses particular challenges in the development of SMEs, like e.g. lack of R&D competences, little innovation or internationalisation.

The core areas for the development of best-practice solutions will concern, e.g., the networking processes, cooperation of SME and R&D institutions with focus on innovation capacities, cooperation of SME and global players for the support of internationalisation and competitiveness, cooperation of SME with public institutions or the role of regional framework conditions.

The partners will jointly work on recommendations for the cluster development.

Close network with local authorities, enterprises and R&D institutions and the interregional cooperation should lead to the establishment of international commercial contacts for SMEs or joint R&D projects.

The expected results are: improved competitiveness of the enterprises in the chemical industry and an improved regional cluster policy through the involvement of the relevant actors from business, administration, politics and science.
