The North-East of England is now one of the most diverse regions in the United Kingdom, not only in terms of landscape and environment, but also for business and industry.
The region consists of 4 sub-regions namely, Northumberland, Tyne &Wear, Durham and Teesside and borders with Scotland to the North, Cumbria to the West, Yorkshire to the South and the North Sea to the East.
The most important cities are Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Darlington. The main East Coast rail line connecting Scotland with London crosses the region. The second largest deep sea port in the United Kingdom operates at Tees Port, with other ports in Tyneside and Wearside, providing excellent freight and passenger sea links to Scandinavia, the Baltic, the West European coastal ports and indeed the rest of the World.
